- 2002–2003 Member in the working group nominated by the National Board of Education, preparing the senior secondary school history and social studies curriculum

- Finnish delegate  in the Council of Europe project group "Learning and teaching about the history of Europe in the 20th century" 1997–2001.

- involved in the following networks: CiCe, Children’s Identity and Citizenship in Europe (Erasmus Thematic Network, coordinated by London Metropolitan University; from  2003 ); Socrates project The Structures and Standards of Initial Training for History Teachers in Europe – A comparative study (coordinated by  the University of Vienna; from 2004).

Research projects

- IEA CIVICS (civic attitudes and knowledge of 14 year olds, international comparison): member of the national steering group (1996/1997 - 2002)

• Development of subject-specific teachers. A research project on the development of student teachers,  (in cooperation with prof. Varpu Eloranta and Dr. Vuokko Kaartinen) (1996 -, continuing)

• Teacher cultures in Finnish schools. Project examining collaboration and other forms of working cultures in staffrooms and schools (Together with Eloranta & Kaatinen) Started 2002.

• Evaluation projects arranged by the evaluation unit of the Faculty of Education, University of Turku. Member of the steering group of the unit.
